I've definitely voiced my opinions about Ejiro Evero's defense in his time with the Carolina Panthers. One thing that is an absolute fact is the statistical improvement from the bottom of every major defensive category in 2024 to around the middle of the pack in 2025. Key free agent additions and the return of Derrick Brown spearheaded the improvement.

That being said, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Panthers' defensive coordinator. Many in Panther Nation want the team to move on from Evero. Given the statistical improvements, there were still a lot of areas of concern from a fan perspective. I stress "Fan Perspective" because the Panthers extended Evero's contract to the end of the 2027 season, lining up with head coach Dave Canales' contract. That was not a popular move within the fan base, especially after a historically bad 2024 season defensively.

Evero's bend but don't break philosophy, coupled with his reliance on prevent defense, has left a lot to be desired. I have labeled this defense as the "Parking Lot" defense. Quite often this year, on third down and short/medium, our secondary was playing 8-10 yards off the line of scrimmage, leaving a lot of space for receivers to work. This led to many easy conversions by the opposing team. The Panthers ranked second to last this year in third down conversion rate on defense. Reference the last drive for the LA Rams in the Panthers' Wild Card loss for a great example.

After this season ended, Dan Morgan and Dave Canales reiterated their support for Evero and their belief in his defense. Morgan went on to say that he has to bring in more talent on the defensive side of the ball for Evero to work with. A sentiment that many Panther fans agree with as well. Pointing out a lack of pressure from the pass rush and subpar linebacker play.

So let me know where you stand. Do you think it's The Scheme or The Talent that was the major issue on defense this past season? Take the poll below ⬇️⬇️⬇️
